If you’re confident in your own abilities and have the time, you might be happy writing your own letters to professionals such as social workers, teachers, and doctors. If that’s you, then I have some free guidelines in my blog post: 7 tips for writing to professionals, completely free, here on my blog.
Alternatively, for a speedier, easier way to get those awkward letters written, you could try my template letters, available here. When you use those it’s just a question of filling in the blanks with the right names and a few details specific to your family, and you’re good to go.
If you’re completely snowed under and/or stressed out by a particular letter, or what you need to write doesn’t fit neatly into one of my templates. My editing service
If you’re happy to write your own letter but would like a second pair of eyes to look it over when you’re finished, my proofreading/editing service could be a good fit for you.
I cover basics such as spelling, grammar and punctuation, along with checking for meaning, style and clarity. I’ll make sure that your letter is as clear and strong as it can be, making suggested changes which you are free to accept or reject using Word’s ‘tracked changes’ feature. We can talk about tone (e.g. how amenable/angry/desperate you want to sound), which I can retain or adjust according to your wishes. I’ll make sure we agree a brief before I start work so that we are both clear on your expectations and what will be delivered.
I’m a trained and experienced member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, having worked in the publishing industry for nearly 20 years. I have a BA degree in linguistics and English language and an MA in language studies. I’ve worked on books written by some household names and written direct mail letters for international charities.
